The first Orthodox church in Cabinda

The prayer and plea as well as the long desire to acquire a church, finally took shape in the city of Cabinda of the Holy Metropolis of Kananga with the construction of the first church building there in the name of the Holy Trinity.

Until now, the worship needs of the faithful of Cabinda have been served in a makeshift mud structure. However, their reverence and love for God made them beautify it and keep it clean.

The parish priest is Fr. Demetrius Lubamba, who is distinguished for his piety, his kindness, his constant activity but also for the fear of God that works in his soul. From my first visit to Cabinda, which is also a county seat, I promised the priest and his flock that I would do my best to knock on doors in order to respond to their earnest request for the construction of a church.

My plea and request received a positive response from the active members of the Orthodox Missionary Fraternity of Thessaloniki and especially from the esteemed Lady A .. who wishes to remain anonymous. Construction work is ongoing at a fast pace under the daily supervision of Fr. Demetrius but also thanks to the voluntary work of the women carrying sand and water on their heads every day, thus contributing to the church reconstruction.

The Orthodox church of the Holy Trinity under construction

We wholeheartedly thank the Orthodox Missionary Fraternity of Thessaloniki for the continued support to the missionary work of our Holy Metropolis but also for their specific benefaction with the reconstruction of the Holy Trinity Church. Needless to say that Mrs. A, that is, the lady who donated the money for this project, will be particularly remembered in our prayer not only in the Holy Altar of this church but also in the hearts of the Christians of Cabinda.

It is not the first time that The Orthodox Missionary Fraternity of Thessaloniki has responded to a church construction in the H. M. of Kananga. A year ago it responded to the construction of another church as well in honor of Holy Saint Paisios of Mount Athos.

The Diocese of Cananga will always be grateful!

✝Bishop Theodosios of Kananga
