First Visit by Metropolitan Nikodimos of Nigeria

We were filled with joy by the visit of Metropolitan Nikodimos of Nigeria on Wednesday, August 5.

His Eminence visited the offices of the Orthodox Missionary Fraternity for the first time after his election by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa as the Metropolitan of Nigeria.

He conveyed to us the love, esteem, and interest of His Beatitude for the multifaceted, complex, and essential work of the Fraternity, which it develops throughout the sensitive and suffering region where he serves as Bishop in West Africa.

He spoke to us about his travel experiences, the delays and hardships, sometimes up to 15 hours, to reach the most remote areas of his province.

His unceasing concern is to strengthen, organize, and bless all those who await to see their Bishop, their Father, the Metropolitan of the Orthodox Church.

He elaborated on the difficulties faced by the local community, the needs for clean and potable water, the maintenance of churches, and the urgent need for and access to medicines and hospitalization for the sick. He spoke to us about how the indigenous people express and praise the Lord in their own way and tradition.

He elaborated on the needs of the indigenous priests, the large families they have, and the daily problems they face.

He informed us about the nutritional needs of the parishes, the shortages and the deprivations our children experience regarding notebooks, pencils, school bags, desks, and chairs.

Through our discussion, we highlighted how much the parishes and the people of the Metropolis of Nigeria need shipment of humanitarian aid with these essential and basic goods to be sent.

The work we do for God is never tiresome!

This is the new Metropolitan Nikodimos of Nigeria, a tireless worker of the Gospel, full of love and zeal for work and ministry.

May God grant him strength and patience in the heavy and difficult work of the mission!
