Building an Orthodox church in Krikilan, Indonesia

Dear friends of the Mission,

I wish to present the construction of an Orthodox Church in the village of Krikilan, in the Nogosari region of Central Java.

Krikilan is located near Solo’s Adisumarmo International Airport and has approximately 7,000 inhabitants. The majority are Muslims; until recently, there was neither a Christian nor a church in the village.

In 2022, I went there to preach the Gospel of Christ. I met the family of Mr. Saman and Mrs. Santikem, with seven children, all Muslims. I visited the family, bringing essential necessities such as rice, milk, eggs, and cooking oil, as the village is remote and impoverished. This became the catalyst for Mr. Saman’s conversion.

From 2022 until today, the family and other residents have been taught the principles of Orthodoxy, right worship, and right practice. Today, there are 33 Orthodox faithful in Krikilan. In September 2022, I baptized Mr. Saman and his wife, who received the names Luke and Martha. After their baptism, Luke and Martha, despite their poverty, donated 100 square meters of land for the construction of a church.

Because all 33 faithful are poor, their method for building the church was to make bricks themselves, collect sand from the rivers, and gradually raise money for cement. Thus began the construction of the Orthodox church in Krikilan.

Due to financial difficulties, the construction remains unfinished. We ask for your prayers for its completion. The church does not yet have a patron saint. Any of you who wish to propose a name will be received with profound gratitude.

My prayers and blessings to all of you.

Father Methodius Sri Gunarjo
