Northern Uganda Mission Strengthened by Motorcycle Donation
On July 18, 2026, motorcycles donated by the Orthodox Foreign Mission Fraternity were distributed by Bishop Nektarios (Kabuye) of Gulu to selected priests, enabling them to minister to Orthodox communities dispersed across extensive and often inaccessible areas of the Holy Diocese.
This generous donation marks a significant milestone in enhancing the Church’s capacity to minister to faithful living in remote villages and missionary stations.
For many years, the clergy and church workers of the Diocese faced severe transportation difficulties in carrying out their sacred mission. Ministering in a geographically vast area, with an inadequate road network and limited public transport, made their work particularly challenging.
Many priests were forced to travel long distances on foot, by bicycle, or with unreliable means of transport to celebrate the Divine Liturgy, administer the Holy Sacraments, offer pastoral care, teach the Orthodox Faith, and support vulnerable children in missionary communities.
The new motorcycles are expected to substantially enhance the Church’s work, allowing for more frequent pastoral visits, liturgical gatherings, catechetical instruction, and charitable activities. Concurrently, they will improve access to missionary centers, where volunteers contribute to the education and spiritual development of children, particularly in areas lacking permanent churches and educational infrastructure.
His Grace Bishop Nektarios, along with the priests of the Diocese, expressed their warm and heartfelt gratitude to the Fraternity, whose love and generosity made the realization of this project possible. This support is expected to have a long-term and substantial impact on the development of Orthodox Christian communities throughout Northern Uganda, bridging the distances between missionary centers and ensuring that no faithful is deprived of spiritual care.
Our Holy Diocese remains dedicated to the expansion of the Orthodox Mission, despite the challenges posed by long distances and limited resources. This timely donation of motorcycles serves as a living testimony of Christian love, solidarity, and practical philanthropy, inspiring hope in both the clergy and the faithful who are ministered to daily.
With gratitude to God and deep appreciation for all supporters, we pray that the Lord will richly bless all those who contributed to this noble initiative through the Fraternity. With humility, however, we wish to point out that the need for support in the area of motorcycle transportation remains very great. The number of motorcycles distributed to date represents only one-quarter of the total number required to address this significant challenge.
For this reason, we appeal for further support, so that it may be possible to strengthen all clergy who are in need of transportation, enabling them to continue their pastoral and missionary ministry more effectively, to the glory of the local Orthodox Ecclesiastical mission in Northern Uganda and the Church as a whole.
