Kinshasa Theological School Faculty Meeting in Thessaloniki

On Friday, June 19th, after several years, the first meeting of the teaching staff of the Orthodox Theological School “Saint Athanasios the Athonite” of Congo took place. The meeting was held at the offices of the Orthodox Missionary Fraternity, at 6 Mackenzie King Street, in Thessaloniki.

The initiative belongs to the Fraternity’s Board of Directors, which acted in full consultation with the tireless missionary, His Eminence Metropolitan Theodosius of Kinshasa. The distinguished collaborators of this recognized academic institution in Congo were warmly welcomed by the President of the Fraternity, Mr. Charalambos Metallidis, as well as members of the Board of Directors.

Meeting Participants

The meeting was presided over by His Eminence Metropolitan Theodosius of Kinshasa, and the following academics and scientific collaborators participated:

  • Mr. Dimitrios Nikitas, Emeritus Professor.
  • Ms. Anna Koltsiou Nikitas, Emeritus Professor.
  • Mr. Petros Panagiotopoulos, Associate Professor and Vice President of the Department of Theology at the School of Theology, AUTH.
  • Dr. Athanasios Tziertzis, Special Teaching Staff (EDIP) member of the Department of Theology, AUTH.
  • Dr. Xanthi Albanaki, Doctor of Theology and Advisor to Theologians of Western Thessaloniki.
  • Dr. Nikolaos Tsirevelos, Special Teaching Staff (EDIP) member of the Department of Theology, AUTH.
  • Dr. Konstantinos Metallidis, General Secretary of the Fraternity.

Topics and Conclusions

His Eminence expressed his heartfelt thanks both to the President of the Fraternity for the impeccable hospitality and to the esteemed faculty members of the Orthodox Theological School of Congo for their many years of crucial contribution to its operation.

During the meeting, the following were thoroughly discussed:

  • Ways to address existing practical and academic problems.
  • New prospects for the smooth, more effective, and upgraded operation of the School.
  • The School’s outward orientation.
  • The strategy for its future evolution and development.
  • The Importance of the School:

The Theological School “Saint Athanasios the Athonite” in Kinshasa is officially recognized by the state of Congo through a Presidential Decree. It is the only Orthodox Theological School in the entire canonical jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Alexandria.

The operational needs of the School are particularly increased and costly. The Orthodox Missionary Fraternity, from its establishment to the present day, stands as a steadfast supporter of this work, fully recognizing the strategic importance of the School not only for Congo but also for the entire African continent.
