Eyeglasses for the People of Africa
On April 29, Mr. Charalambos Metallidis, President of the Orthodox External Mission Fraternity, attended an event organized by the Ophthalmica Institute of Ophthalmology and Microsurgery at its facilities in Thessaloniki, for the coordination of the 9th mass shipment of eyeglasses to developing countries.
The Fraternity received boxes containing a large quantity of eyeglasses and frames, which it will send to African countries to meet the needs of individuals with vision problems. These are eyeglasses no longer used by their owners, either because their prescription changed or because they underwent refractive surgery.
Students from the first grade of high school at E. Mantoulidis Schools actively participated in the preparation of the shipment, assisting with lens measurement, sorting, and packaging of the eyeglasses.
The eyeglasses will be included in the first container to be shipped next week, destined for Kolwezi, Congo (DRC). We sincerely thank the Ophthalmica Institute for its continuous cooperation and practical solidarity.
