Call for the Construction of Churches of Saint Chrysostom Papasarantopoulos in Africa
On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, the ancient Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa proceeded with an act of historical and spiritual justice: the inscription of Saint Chrysostom Papasarantopoulos, the pioneering missionary of Africa and spiritual founder of the Orthodox Missionary Fraternity, in the rolls of the Saints of our Church.
Upon the announcement of his canonization, our Fraternity, as a small token of gratitude, undertook the full funding for the first Holy Church in honor of the Saint in the Diocese of Toliara, under the supervision of Bishop Prodromos of Toliara. This project is already in an advanced stage of completion.
A Church for Every Place of Sacrifice
However, our duty does not stop there. We consider it imperative to erect at least one church dedicated to the memory of the Saint in every country where he served: in Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, and Congo.
This construction, beyond honoring Saint Chrysostom, is also an act of love towards our African brethren, for whom the Saint is not merely a missionary of the past but the living symbol of sacrifice, absolute love, and selfless offering. He is “their” Saint: the one who cared for them, catechized them, baptized them, and served them with his whole soul.
The Orthodox Missionary Fraternity extends a warm appeal to all devout brethren, friends of the mission, and every faithful Christian. We are seeking donors who wish to become founders of these new churches, the cost of which ranges from 40,000 to 70,000 euros, depending on the country and local conditions.
This is a deeply spiritual and beneficial project that will offer our African brethren a house of prayer under the protection of their own patron. Let us all participate in this vision, transforming our gratitude towards the Saint into a work of dedication and spiritual rebirth.
