A life-saving container in Benin

When our fellow human beings, next to us or in our neighborhood, are deprived of their daily necessities, we have failed as humans. Where our neighbor suffers in the same world as us, where in the 21st century small children try to trick hunger with crumbs while hunger has already left their bodies skeletal, and as they die, they whisper “Mommy, I’m hungry…”, these last words from their little mouths, and close their eyes forever, we are inhumane and murderers. And yet, we call ourselves Orthodox Christians, but we allow this injustice, this tragedy, to pass with complete indifference.

Is it because they are not our children? And yet, at some point, whether we want to or not, a day will come when Christ will say to us: “For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me.”

Nevertheless, there are also those heroes who have learned to care for others, to love them, and who act as good Samaritans for the children of Africa. For they hear the cry of every child before it dies and rush to offer what is necessary to keep them alive.

Therefore, with joy and a feeling of gratitude, the Holy Diocese of Benin, Togo, and Burkina Faso received the second container with food, milk, biscuits, sweets, and various other items—a donation from the Orthodox Missionary Fraternity of Thessaloniki for our children in Benin.

This container is proof of the love and support for the missionary work of our Holy Diocese of Benin, Togo, and Burkina Faso, which struggles under difficult and wretched conditions, striving to raise high the banner of Orthodoxy.

We thank all who contributed to the shipment of this container of love to Benin.
