Two new containers have departed, the fruit of your love.
On March 1st, the day our Church festively celebrates the Sunday of Orthodoxy, faith was transmuted into righteous action. With the blessing of Metropolitan Barnabas of Neapolis, the Orthodox Foreign Mission Brotherhood completed yet another humanitarian aid mission from its facilities in Filyro, Thessaloniki.
Two containers carrying 31 tons of valuable goods departed for the Holy Metropolis of Antananarivo in Madagascar, as well as the Parish of Panagia and charitable institutions in neighboring Bulgaria, where they will cover essential living and worship needs of our brethren. The containers included:
- Essential foodstuffs: Oranges, powdered milk, pasta, seed oil, olive oil, sugar, tomato paste, legumes, and other food items.
- Ecclesiastical items: Chandeliers, candle stands, candles, and incense for equipping the holy temples.
- Equipment: Furniture, school supplies, clothing, and toys for our little brethren.
The Gospel of the day reminded us of Philip’s invitation to Nathanael: the discovery of the Messiah, the Incarnate Truth. Just as Christ became man to associate with us and reveal the path to salvation, so too is the Mission a gift from God, as it carries this message to the ends of the earth.
Seeing our volunteers, young and old, working selflessly to load the containers, we become witnesses to a modern mission. In their faces, the words of Leo Tolstoy are confirmed:
“There is no greatness where there is no simplicity, goodness, and truth.”
