From the Lecture of the Metropolitan of Cameroon at AUTh

On Monday, March 9, 2026, Metropolitan Gregory of Cameroon delivered a lecture titled “Missionary Witness in Cameroon” at the Department of Theology of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The event was held as part of the courses “Christian Ethics and Bioethics” and “Mission in Africa: Anthropological, Intercultural, and Interreligious Dimensions,” in cooperation with the Orthodox Missionary Fraternity.

The event was opened by the Deputy Head of the Department, Associate Professor Petros Panagiotopoulos, who welcomed the Metropolitan and spoke about the importance of missionary service and study in sub-Saharan Africa. Subsequently, Dr. Nikolaos Tsirevelos, a member of EDIP, presented the life and missionary journey of Metropolitan Gregory.

The lecture that followed combined personal missionary experience with theological knowledge; the Metropolitan spoke with theological depth and directness about the work being carried out in Cameroon, to a hall full of students who followed with undiminished interest. The lecture was followed by a constructive discussion, with students posing questions about the reality of Orthodox mission in Africa.
