First visit of Bishop Philip of Kisumu to Greece

Bishop Philip of Kisumu, hierarch of the Holy Diocese of Kisumu since October, is visiting Greece for the first time these days.

The Needs of the Diocese

The Holy Diocese of Kisumu includes 50 Orthodox parishes in the western part of Kenya and 31 priests. The work that the new Bishop is called to undertake is immense, and the needs of the region are pressing. The priorities of the Diocese include:

• Covering the salaries of priests, who perform significant spiritual work under adverse conditions.
• The restoration of many existing churches that require immediate repair.
• The drilling of wells to provide clean drinking water to local communities.

The Hospitality and Support of the Fraternity

The Orthodox Missionary Fraternity had the honor of hosting His Grace during his stay in our country, fully covering his travel and living expenses. During his visit, the Bishop had the opportunity to meet the faithful people of Northern Greece, and in the coming days, he will visit Athens.

The missionary hierarch officiated at the Holy Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior in Sochos and visited the Holy Monastery of Pantokratoros Litís, as well as priests and missionary associations in Thessaloniki.

The Board of Directors of the Fraternity, recognizing the weight of his new mission, presented him with a sum of money to cover the initial basic needs of his Diocese.

The Fraternity is committed to continuing to stand by the missionary teams, especially supporting the new hierarchs who undertake the difficult work of ministry on the African continent.
