Cooperation with Ophthalmica for the shipment of eyeglasses to Africa

For yet another year, the Orthodox Missionary Fraternity is cooperating with the Institute of Ophthalmology and Microsurgery Ophthalmica as part of the eyeglass recycling initiative “Give your glasses a 2nd chance” for their collection and shipment to the people of Africa.

On December 18, 2025, Mr. Manolis Karakousis, advisor to the Fraternity, attended an awareness event at the new Ophthalmica facilities, where students from Mandoulides Schools received used eyeglasses collected from the public in Thessaloniki, measured them with special lensmeters, and sorted them, ready for loading onto the Fraternity’s humanitarian aid missions.

Mr. Karakousis warmly thanked the Institute’s management for the initiative and received four boxes of eyeglasses that will prove invaluable for our brethren with refractive errors. We thank all who participated and contributed to this important awareness campaign.
