Missionary Visits to the Fraternity
On Wednesday, October 29, during the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Orthodox Missionary Fraternity, we had the pleasure of hosting His Grace Bishop Polycarpos of Bunia and Kisangani, as well as priests from the Holy Metropolis of Mexico.
The hierarch of the Patriarchate of Alexandria informed us about the missionary work he carries out in Africa. Specifically, he referred to the efforts to complete the Holy Church of Saint Athanasius, his desire to establish educational institutions in the city of Kisangani, and the staffing of his clergy with three new deacons. At the same time, he described the difficult and dangerous living conditions prevailing in the war-torn region of Bunia.
For their part, the three clerics and two laypeople from the Holy Metropolis of Mexico informed the members of the Board of Directors about the purpose of their presence in Greece, which is to learn the Greek language, become acquainted with Greco-Byzantine culture, and study Theology.
Our Fraternity provided the distinguished visitors from the Church of America with the support they requested. We are particularly pleased because, once again, our historic Fraternity becomes a center for supporting and bringing together the missionary activities of Orthodoxy among the nations.
