Visit of Bishop Bukoba to the Fraternity

A few days ago, we had the pleasure of hosting Bishop Chrysostom of Bukoba at the offices of the Orthodox External Mission Fraternity.

The tireless hierarch informed us about the efforts being made to achieve the official recognition of Orthodoxy in Rwanda, following his proclamation as shepherd of this African country by the clergy-laity assembly and the election of an episcopal council.

Regarding his multidimensional, extensive, and impressive pastoral work in the Diocese of Bukoba in northern Tanzania, His Grace informed the members of the Board of Directors about the projects being implemented with the support of the Fraternity, specifically the construction of the Holy Church of Saint Artemius and the drilling of a well. Additionally, he expressed his gratitude for the monthly financial support we provide to the 15 missionary outposts in his province, support that has continued uninterrupted for many months.

His reference to the reception of an entire community into Orthodoxy, consisting of numerous clergy and laity, previously Roman Catholics, was particularly moving.

His Grace, always active and with vibrant missionary zeal, referred to the serious lack of medical equipment at the Bukoba hospital. Specifically, he highlighted the urgent need to acquire medical machinery, valued at 18,500 euros, as well as the immediate necessity for the expansion of the existing health center, with the aim of creating and staffing a new Maternity and Pediatric Clinic. Covering the medical needs of pregnant women and children is a key concern of the Diocese.
