Renovation of St. John the Theologian Church in Ghana
A decades-long dream of the Orthodox Christians of the Agona Abodom community in Ghana is, by the grace of God, about to become a reality, thanks to the decisive financial aid, generous donation, and continuous support of the Orthodox Missionary Fraternity.
The Holy Metropolis of Accra has already commissioned a specialized construction firm to prepare a complete technical and structural study, aiming for the thorough renovation of St. John the Theologian Church, which serves as the spiritual center of the Agona Abodom Orthodox Community.
The spacious parish church, built in 2001, currently faces very serious structural problems, resulting in it being out of operation for several years. The damage sustained by the reinforced concrete, columns, and the metal structure supporting the roof, due to construction deficiencies and prolonged exposure to adverse weather conditions, has created dangerous cracks. Additionally, during periods of heavy rainfall, large quantities of water enter the church’s interior, while the doors and windows have been almost completely destroyed.
With the implementation of this project, the Orthodox Missionary Fraternity once again demonstrates its practical love and continuous support for the Orthodox Mission in Ghana, offering the faithful a safe and dignified place of worship and spiritual life.
On behalf of the Orthodox faithful of Ghana, we express our deepest gratitude to the Board of Directors of the Fraternity, its members, friends, and donors, for this invaluable assistance, as well as for the Fraternity’s continuous, long-standing, and multifaceted contribution to the Mission in Ghana.
We are filled with particular joy and hope by the fact that, in the near future, other significant projects are planned, such as renovations of churches and the drilling of boreholes to provide clean drinking water to communities in immediate need, with the help of the Fraternity.
We pray that the Lord, through the intercessions of Saint John the Theologian, may bestow His abundant blessings upon all benefactors and supporters of the Orthodox Mission, repaying their love and sacrificial offering a hundredfold.
