Missionary Visits from Egypt and Uganda

Within a week’s time, we had the joy of welcoming to the offices of the Orthodox Missionary Fraternity His Eminence Metropolitan Narcissus of Pelusium and His Grace Bishop Sylvester of Jinja and Eastern Uganda, who shared with us the challenges as well as the progress of their missionary activities.

Metropolitan Narcissus, who until recently served as Patriarchal Exarch for more than eight years, informed us that he oversees three parishes and four priests. He also mentioned his significant charitable work in the prisons of Eastern Egypt and emphasized that his future plans include, with God’s help, the establishment of an elderly support center.

His Grace Bishop Sylvester of Jinja and Eastern Uganda has 16 priests under his jurisdiction and a significant flock. He is currently in the midst of constructing a large missionary center, which, as he pointed out, “looks to the future.” The center will serve as the heart of the ecclesiastical and charitable activities of the Diocese and will include a church, medical clinic, spiritual center, school facilities, episcopal residence, and accommodation for volunteers.

Finally, His Grace requested funding for the construction of a well in the surrounding area of the missionary center, costing approximately 5,000 euros, which will meet the needs of the entire local community, making it a point of attraction and showcasing the work of the Church.
