On July 5, the feast of the University Church of St. Athanasius of Athos, patron of the University of Congo’s Faculty of Theology, was celebrated. This day also marks the end of classes at the school, which is located in the commune of Mont-Ngafula. The solemn Divine Liturgy was celebrated by the Archpriests Ignatius of Pentapolis, Meletios of Katanga and the Bishop of Central Africa, Metropolitan Nikiforos of Central Africa. The School operates on the model of the Theological School of Halki. It was established six years ago and this year produced twelve new graduate theologians who will work as church leaders for the spread of Orthodoxy. Two of them were ordained priests and join the five ordained last year. The closing ceremony was attended by the aforementioned High Priests, the Ambassador of Greece to Congo and Professor of Canon Law at the School, Mr. Alexandros Katranis, the Member of the National Parliament of Congo, Mr. Kipit, many priests and a large number of faithful from Kinshasa and the surrounding areas. Speeches were delivered both by the university authorities and by student representatives. This is the second year in which graduates have graduated. During the course, Orthodox professors of theological schools from Sydney, Australia, Thessaloniki, Athens, Athens, Vella, Strasbourg, Cyprus, some on the spot and others by tele-teaching, taught. Metropolitan Nikephoros of Central Africa and Rector of the Orthodox University of Congo thanked all those who in various ways contributed to the operation of the Theological School and its boarding school and conveyed the blessings of Patriarch Theodoros of Alexandria and All Africa.
