Sowing the word of God in Kismoyoso, Indonesia
Dear friends of the Mission,
Christ is Risen!
I am sending you a brief chronicle of the Orthodox mission in the Kismoyoso region of Central Java, Indonesia.
The Orthodox community in our area numbers 50 people in total, of whom 24 are baptized and 26 are catechumens. Our community is located at the foot of the volcano, and its members rely mainly on agriculture and goat farming for their livelihood.
According to official data, the population of Kismoyoso village is 6,000 inhabitants. The religious composition of the village is 90% Muslim, while the remaining 10% is distributed among Hindus, Buddhists, Orthodox, and followers of other religious traditions.
The Orthodox presence in Kismoyoso began recently, on January 6, 2023. On that day, I visited Mr. Sandra’s house and spoke to him about Orthodoxy and salvation. From this meeting with Father Sandra, the Orthodox community began to grow steadily, and I soon decided to create a place of worship for its needs.
This is the latest news from Central Java, Indonesia.
