On Sunday, February 12th, the first presentation of the Patriarchal Commissioner of Kisangani, Archbishop Archimandrite H.E. Polykarpou Diamantopoulos for the Mission in North Congo.
The presence of Fr Polycarp attracted a large number of people, who had the opportunity to be informed about the establishment of the new Orthodox Diocese in the north of Congo, which currently includes three Greek Orthodox parishes in Kisangaki, Iziro and Bunia.
The traces of the Greek presence in the area are evident but the Greek population has now departed, leaving behind only the three temples of the Greek community and the appreciation of Hellenism among the locals.
The pioneers of Orthodoxy in the Congo, Fr Chrysostomos Papasarantopoulos, Fr Chariton Pneumatakis and Fr Ignatios Madenlidis, Metropolitan of Pentapolis, have worked in the region in the past.
Fr Polycarp focused on the efforts made to organize the worship life and catechetical programs in the indigenous language as well as the reconstruction of the new Church in honor of St. Anne.
