The first Cathedral of Guatemala

Dear friends of the Mission. The Holy Metropolis of Mexico continues its blessed missionary work in the countries of Latin America. This time the inauguration of the first Cathedral in the country was celebrated in Awakate, Guatemala, organized by Father Damianos, First Bishop of the Metropolis of Mexico. Thousands of Mayan Indians greeted Archbishop Athenagoras with the holy relics of the martyrs, flocking in tears. What was most moving was that they chanted in Greek with great devotion the hymn of Christ is Risen and the fame of Patriarch Bartholomew and Archbishop Athenagoras. The poem you sent to Archimandrite Damianos was read in Spanish during the ceremony.

With much love for Orthodoxy, in the spirit of Easter, our Metropolitan embraced this people of God like a loving father and continues his great work under the umbrella of the Risen Christ and the Virgin Mary of the Annunciation, to whom the name of the Church was dedicated. Evangelization to the Maya who receive the true light of the Resurrection! Many congratulations are also due to Father Evangelos, the parish priest of the Temple and all the Guatemalan Indian priests. Warm thanks to all those who honored us with their presence at the inauguration of the first Cathedral in Guatemala, as well as to the representative of the Patriarchate.
