Every year, a group of Orthodox Americans, sent by the Orthodox Christian Missionary Center, based in Florida, USA, since its establishment there in the 1980s, regularly visit Kenya, offering valuable services, medical, educational, catechetical, etc. With the help of this Centre, holy temples, clinics, schools were built. Currently they are located near Lake Turkana in the northeast of Kenya, where they are indoctrinating the primitive Turkana tribe, a part of which has converted to Orthodoxy. The project leader visited the mission centre at the Patriarchal School in Rirouta in the capital Nairobi. There he met with His Eminence Metropolitan Makarios of Kenya and they worked together for the arrival of two groups of volunteers next June, when the second Holy Church in the same area will be inaugurated. It should be noted that the area is experiencing constant drought and hunger. These volunteers have undertaken a food programme for the children and a water supply from boreholes, which were drilled at their own expense.
