Orthodoxy is reborn in Arusha

After many years of missionary stagnation, the mission in Arusha was revived, with the preparation and baptism of seven young people. It is worth noting that the mission in the African continent was started at the beginning of the last century in the above mentioned region by the late Archimandrite Nicodemus Sarika.

Praise be to the Lord!

A new perspective is opening up in the missionary effort of the Holy Metropolis of Irinople.

The desire of His Holiness Pope and Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria and All Africa to establish a Missionary Centre in Arusha, a city in north-eastern Tanzania, located about 90 km from the border with Kenya, is beginning to take shape. Following the blessing of Mons. With the blessing of Metropolitan Demetrios of Irinople, two visits by the author to the above area took place. By the grace of God, a suitable plot of land was found for the creation of a Missionary Centre, covering an area of 20 hectares and worth €50,000.

We hope that God will enlighten some of His people to fund it through your prestigious Brotherhood. At this point, we would like once again to express from the depths of our souls our great gratitude for your support so far in many of the projects of our Holy Metropolis.

We also wish to inform all our dear friends that after many years of missionary stagnation, the mission in Arusha has been revived with the preparation and baptism of seven new people. It is worth noting that the Mission in the African Continent was started at the beginning of the last century in the above mentioned region by the late Archimandrite Nicodemus Sarika.

We hope that the number of seven new members of our Orthodox Church in the above mentioned region is not accidental. Furthermore, we believe that the number of believers there will multiply rapidly. Therefore, dear brethren in Christ of the Brotherhood of Orthodox Foreign Missionaries, we ask for your financial assistance for the above-mentioned project.

In conclusion, we would like to stress that Arusha is located at a key point in Africa where transnational cooperation between the surrounding countries is developing. Furthermore, the Greek Community of Tanzania operates a school there with high quality educational services and is willing to provide assistance, as its president has assured us. Therefore, there are all the conditions for the Orthodox Faith to bear fruit for the glory of God and the salvation of the souls of those living there, for whom the Son and Word of God, who became incarnate for the salvation of the whole world, shed His blood on the Cross. God grant.

Archim. Photios Hadjientoniou
Prot. of I.M. Irinople
