New school for the children of Blantyre

The hope of Orthodoxy in Malawi lies not in the goodwill of donors but in our methodical help to the country to raise up true Orthodox persons.

With the blessings of our Archbishop Joachim and the prayers of the friends of our missionary team in Malawi, our Orthodox Church continues its work for the evangelization of our indigenous Malevian brothers and sisters.

It is no exaggeration to say that every time we think of you, the hearts of all of us here overflow with gratitude for the beautiful Church of the Resurrection that you have built for us! Nor is it tedious, boring or superfluous to once again express to you the thanks of all the people of the surrounding area within this country, so thirsty for Orthodoxy.

Today, we are pleased to announce that, by the grace of God, all the works you have entrusted us to do have been completed.

The Holy Church of the Resurrection in Blantyre

Next to the magnificent church, the beautiful house of the priest has been completed and already accommodates the married indigenous priest Fr Nicodemus and his family.

Our Archbishop has placed in this responsible post the very pious and in all things worthy and good minister of God, Fr. Nicodemus, and we all ask God to support him in his work in this promising parish.

Fr. Nicodemus has been with us for 4 years and thus we had the opportunity to see his abilities, but also his humility, love and dedication to the Church. Please, put him in your prayers and may he be worthy of the difficult task he has been entrusted with! He has already begun catechisms to young and old in the surrounding area and has a zeal that we pray will not only not fade, but increase day by day…

Furthermore, we are happy to inform you about the completion and installation, under your care, of the purchased complete equipment of the Church of the Resurrection. Thus, the Holy Church now has seats, a bishop’s throne, sacred vessels and sacred vestments, a lectern-chant with all the Minarets and other liturgical books of our Church, beautiful large framed icons that adorn the surrounding walls, and many more obvious and hidden details that every church has. Orthodox children in front of the Holy Church of the Resurrection

The grace of God blessed so much this small plot of land, where the Church of the Resurrection is built, that without being in our original plans, a school was built there!

Indeed, next to the Holy Church of the Resurrection, a Primary School and a Kindergarten were built, which immediately began to operate and has 200 pupils!

This is a miracle! Because there was no donor to undertake the whole project, but the money was raised with a lot of effort by many different people from Greece, who contributed to our work with small amounts each, with much love and much prayer for our missionary team.

Now we can say that the Orthodox Church of the Resurrection has its School! The ten teachers are very good; they are graduates of the Malawi Academy of Education and there are many children who want to attend this school.

The children are taught the Orthodox Christian faith weekly. They start their day with prayer, saying the Trisagion and systematically learn the Symbol of our Faith, the “Creed” and so much more. When we visit them, they greet us in Greek, shouting in their characteristic African voices “kalimera” and this gives us joy.

Our Orthodox school

In accordance with the legal procedures for the establishment of a school, the inspectors, who came from the Ministry of Education to inspect the school, were very pleased and admired our old and beautiful buildings and not only granted a license to operate, but also gave our school the right to become an examination centre for students from the surrounding area. This is a rare privilege among “good” schools!

Our brothers and sisters, by sharing all this with you, we are sure that we will share the same great joy that all those who serve our One Church of Christ and who each put their effort and their way for the progress of our Orthodoxy.

It is certain that the future of the parish of the Resurrection, like every Orthodox parish, does not lie in the admirable buildings but in the well-educated and well-educated children’s souls.

The hope of Orthodoxy in Malawi lies not in the goodwill of donors but in our methodical help to the country to raise up true Orthodox persons. Amen.
