Dear brothers and sisters, hail in the Lord! I am writing to inform you of the progress of the works that are being carried out thanks to you in the mission in Malawi.
Current projects
In principle, the drilling of the fourteen wells is almost complete. Thirteen of the 14 wells you are financing have already been delivered. I am waiting for the 14th to be completed so that I can send you a full report on this important project, which by the grace of God is being completed. The second project, which we have undertaken in parallel, is the Church of the Resurrection in Blantyre. The Church has been completed with your help, but the priest’s house and the equipment of the Church are still pending. You gave me €25,000 for these works last December and the second and final instalment of €13,500 is still outstanding so that they can be completed. Understanding the great difficulties that you all face in Greece, we will kindly ask you to send us this amount as soon as it is available. Let me remind you that at the inauguration of the Church, the Patriarch learned that the work was carried out by the friends of your Fraternity and he expressed his appreciation for your help in the mission in the African land.
New needs
At the same time, I would like to announce something very pleasant, which we perceive as a manifest action of our Triune God! Just today I received a call from the planning department and was told that the plans for the reconstruction of the Church of the Nativity of Christ in Blantyre have been approved. This is the plot of land in the heart of the city that I have told you about. During our Patriarch’s visit to Malawi in October 2011, His Beatitude laid the foundation stone of the Church. None of us expected the plans for the Temple to be approved so quickly. Certainly the blessing of our Patriarch would have been influential. We estimate that the reconstruction of the church will cost 85,000 €. We hope that donors will soon be found who will make this amount available, as well as the sum of 42,000 € to pay off the purchase of the land. We will, as always, eagerly await your responses, so that together we can contribute to the spread of Orthodoxy in this distant country of Malawi.
With the love of Christ,
Priest Hermolaus
