In the early morning hours of February 10 , 2009, His Beatitude Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa arrived in Nairobi, Kenya, at the airport. His Beatitude was received by His Eminence Metropolitan Makarios of Kenya, the Ambassador of Greece in Nairobi and African priests. After a short rest, around noon, His Beatitude arrived at the premises of the Holy Metropolis of Kenya, where he was warmly welcomed by hundreds of pupils and students attending the educational institutions of the Metropolis. To the sound of bells, accompanied by the Hierarch concerned, he entered the Holy Church of St. Makarios the Egyptian of the Patriarchal School, where the students sang the Patriarch’s fame and other hymns in Greek with great melodiousness. During this brief reception, His Beatitude presented His Eminence with the honorary diploma which last year was offered by the Moscow-based International Foundation for the Unity of Orthodox Peoples for the wonderful work carried out by the Orthodox Patriarchal School “Archbishop Makarios III of Cyprus”. His Beatitude then received at the Metropolitan Palace the teachers and priests as well as collaborators to whom he wished them all the best in their course and thanked them for the valuable work they offer to the local Church. At noon His Eminence hosted a lunch in honour of His Beatitude where they discussed in detail the course of the Church in the Kenya Metropolis. Late in the afternoon, His Eminence escorted His Beatitude to the Nairobi Airport wishing him a good journey and success at his next stop.

Bishop Makarios of Nairobi
His Eminence Geron bishop Makarios of Nairobi has served the Orthodox Mission in Kenya since 1977. He was ordained the bishop of Zimbabwe in 1998 and in 2001 he was moved to Kenya.
