Missionary News from Cameroon

Dear brothers in Christ, rejoice in the Lord always. I am writing first of all to thank you for your participation during the Second Pastoral Visit of the Holy See to Cameroon from 10-23 February this year, on the occasion of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the Holy See of Cameroon. It is very important for our cooperation and the promotion of the missionary work that the visit of the Missionary Associations’ staff members to the mission fields. Here ‘at first hand’ one can get a picture of both the work and our difficulties. I am glad because I was given the opportunity to see the region of Northern Cameroon, which is unique in all of Africa. Again, thank you for your efforts. The construction issues in cooperation with the Mother Brotherhood are as follows: 1. The Church of St. Demetrius in Yaounde. After His Beatitude’s departure, I called the person in charge of the company to determine the exact time of delivery of the project. According to our original contract and the remaining four individual contracts, a minimum amount of 400 euros remained according to my payment receipts. I believe that in a short time the contractor will have delivered the completed project. 2. The Missionary Centre in Maroua. As you have seen the construction has reached a very satisfactory point with the credit of the contractor. In addition to the agreement which we had made included the exterior metal windows, doors as well as the drainage areas (3 cesspools). So far I have received 65,000€ from the Brotherhood and about 20,000€ remain to complete the construction and hand it over to us for equipment and use. But I think, as you have found out, that both projects are of basic infrastructure and with great potential and are worth both the effort and the mental wear and tear and the expense. Wishing all grace and blessing from the Lord to all of you, I extend my love in the Lord. †Cameroon Gregory
