“We need a clinic. During childbirth, many mothers die due to the lack of a doctor or nurse.”
These words, written on a piece of paper by the president of a Tanzanian village, summarize a reality our missionaries encounter daily.
In many areas, there is no organized medical facility within dozens of kilometers. These are areas where illnesses are not only due to poverty, but also to ignorance about prevention and transmission methods. Areas where a simple childbirth can be fatal, simply because there is no doctor.
In such areas, with your loving help, our Fraternity funds the construction and operation of clinics and multi-specialty medical centers, offering free medical and pharmaceutical care to people who would otherwise have none at all.
What the Fraternity funds
The Orthodox Missionary Fraternity primarily supports the construction of new medical centers or the expansion of existing ones, such as in Kindamali, Tanzania, Toliara, Madagascar and Waterloo, Sierra Leone. Additionally, in some cases, the Fraternity subsidizes the monthly operating costs of clinics, covering the salaries of doctors and nurses, so they can serve hundreds of people monthly, regardless of religion.
