A Health Centre in Uganda

Despite the financial difficulties, lately, an extraordinary effort is being made by members of the Brotherhood of Orthodox Foreign Missionaries to complete two building projects in the community of Metamorphosis Degeya, in the Holy Metropolis of Uganda. These projects are the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen and the “P. Papadimitrakopoulos” Health Clinic, next to the Church. We praise Almighty God, who by His grace has advanced these works, through so many difficulties, to the stage they are now. While, on our behalf, warm thanks are due to all those who, in the love of God, contribute their stake.
As you may recall, here where these works are taking place, in the Centre of Metamorphosis, our Church serves a large number of people in the region, not only of the Orthodox faith, but also heterodox, mainly in the fields of education and health. However, these vital needs are constantly increasing with the development of the place and our fellow human beings. Therefore, whatever is best added to the Centre, as an extension or enlargement of its services, offers great expectations for the further progress of the people in Christ.
Because the educational life of the young people from the area now dominates the precinct of Metamorphosis, the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen was erected outside the school enclosure, in order to establish it for the community life of the faithful and, in this way, to separate the programs and activities. Although the Clinic is located inside the school enclosure, in addition to the student youth, it will also serve all the patients who come to the clinic, through a special entrance at the side of the Church.

The painting and equipping of the church is pending. The offers from the carpenters for the seats were very false. Perhaps we should put in the required seats gradually. In any case, the carpenters are teasing us, about the large space, which will be clothed with seats. But as far as the equipment of the clinic is concerned, the execution is proceeding without a problem. Doctor George Sunday, an orthopedic surgeon and grandson of the late Fr. Elias Buzinde, is making sure that the right tools are purchased and placed where they need to be.
The effort for the total salvation of the people in Uganda and throughout Africa, as a work of our Lord Jesus Christ, usually encounters many unexpected events. However, the work is being advanced in spite of surprises and delays. May the God of love bless all who work for the salvation of the people.
