Who can ignore a hungry child?
Who can pass by an elderly homeless person?
Who can forget the sight of someone searching for food in the trash?

In many countries where our Mission operates, questions like these are a daily reality. People not only lack food, but in some cases, there isn’t even the possibility of cultivation or fishing. Nevertheless, people have lived in such areas for centuries. With meager resources, they try to satisfy their hunger, and they are content when they have a plate of flour or rice a day.
Traveling through these regions, Orthodox missionaries, Greek or indigenous, imitate the example of our Lord. Along with caring for people’s souls, they do not neglect their bodies. They organize soup kitchens or distribute food to our fellow human beings of every race, religion, and age. They offer a plate of clean, healthy food or a quantity of provisions for the week’s needs.
We know that even in our homeland, the need for soup kitchens is great. But comparisons are truly unnecessary when, in Congo or Burundi, the majority of the population lives on less than 50 euros per month.
Help us in this difficult endeavor to support the poorest of the poor. Our surplus is a necessity for these people. Our small donation brings a smile to many faces. Our own abundance has immeasurable value in the eyes of God.
