Two new containers departed for Ghana and Bulgaria
On Sunday, June 22, the Orthodox Missionary Fraternity completed its humanitarian aid program for the 2024-2025 period by sending two new containers to Ghana and Bulgaria. The loading of the containers with goods weighing 16 tonnes and 10 tonnes respectively took place at the Fraternity’s warehouse in Filyro, Thessaloniki, with the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Varnavas of Neapolis and the honorable presence of His Eminence Metropolitan Daniel of Accra.
His Eminence thanked the Board of Directors and the devoted volunteers, who serve in this program and responded to his request to strengthen the charitable work of the Holy Metropolis of Accra. He then recounted the great event of the conversion of a group of 5.000 heterodox Christians from Ivory Coast to the Orthodox Church.
This month, 24 clergymen and laypeople from this group are visitting Greece on a pilgrimage tour to get better acquainted with the Orthodox spirituality. They were thus able to visit Filyro, attend the container loading and express their gratitude in person. Then they sang traditional Ivorian songs for the delight of those gathered.
This shipment is a continuation of the Fraternity’s multi-year work for the material support of Orthodox communities in Africa and for the provsion of humanitarian aid to areas in need.
