Visit of Metropolitan Meletios of Katanga to our Fraternity
On the morning of Monday, May 5, our Fraternity had the distinct honor of welcoming to its offices (6 Mackenzie King Street, Thessaloniki) the experienced and respected missionary, His Eminence Metropolitan Meletios of Katanga. He was accompanied by Fr. Kyrillos, with many years of missionary work in Lubumbashi, and Fr. Nikolaos of Gregoriou monastery.
During the meeting, extensive reference was made to the recent shipment of two containers of humanitarian aid, which departed from our Fraternity’s warehouses in Filyro, Thessaloniki. The containers included valuable goods, fruits of love and offerings from spiritual movements and holy monasteries of our homeland:
- Gregoriou monastery at Mount Athos
- Saint Nektarios monastery, Aegina
- Saint Georgios Karslidis monastery, Drama
- Proussos monastery
- “Saint Kosmas the Aetolian” Missionary Association
- Numerous parishes from all over Greece
Fr. Kyrillos presented the current needs of the missionary work in the Metropolis of Katanga, with emphasis on the following urgent matters:
- Need to acquire a generator to cover frequent power outages, at a cost of 6,000 euros
- Completion of the ceiling of the Holy Church of Saint Catherine in Lubumbashi, with an estimated cost of 6,000 to 8,000 euros
The members of the Board of Directors committed to stand by the missionaries’ efforts. At the same time, we make a warm appeal to every concerned brother to contribute — in any way and according to ability — so that the missionary work can continue unhindered, to the glory of the Holy Triune God and for the relief of our suffering brothers in Africa.
