Support the creation of the first Orthodox clinic in Ghana

Following an appeal by His Eminence, Metropolitan Daniel of Accra, the Brotherhood of Orthodox Foreign Missionaries undertook the cost of the construction of the first clinic of the church in Ghana. The missionary’s letter prompted the board members to take this decision because it reflects both the theology of the mission and its experience. Just as it would be impossible to spread the teachings of Christ apart from his sinless way of life and his miracles, so it is impossible for a missionary church to take root and grow without works of love and giving.

For the start of the project our Brotherhood sent the first 23,000 euros. However, other financial resources are needed for the construction of the clinic building and its equipment. We need your immediate financial help. As Pelopidas used to say, “You cannot respond to hunger with words”. The same is true of disease.

We ask for your support, even if it is minimal, because according to the expressive English proverb “a little help is better than a lot of compassion”.

The Church takes care of the soul as well as the body!

The Orthodox mission does not (should) focus only on the salvation of human souls, who accept the saving message of the Gospel of Christ, are converted to the Orthodox faith, baptized in the Name of the Triune God and live a spiritual life.

According to Orthodox teaching, every human being is a “temple of the Holy Spirit in us” (1 Corinthians 6:19), a perfect creation of God in whom He “breathed into his person the breath of life” (Genesis 2:7), sanctifying his soul and body.

The body is as sacred as the soul. It needs care and attention in order to maintain health and to be able, along with the soul, to worship God. The message of caring for the body cannot be ignored by the Orthodox Mission, which is mainly active on the African continent, which is plagued by disease and hunger. For this reason, all the Mission’s nuclei take care to provide basic medical care to people who seek help.

The Diocese of Accra has so far been unable to secure the necessary resources to create a health facility. The people in the town and villages where we have Parish Churches are asking us not to forget them. We provide them, every time we visit them, with the necessary medicines (mainly painkillers and malaria pills), but without medical advice and care. That is why we set a goal this year, first of all, to create a primary care clinic in the capital, so that we can assist both our Orthodox flock and every person in need, without any condition or discrimination.

We have our hope in all of you who are currently reading our appeal, understanding the needs of our African brothers and sisters, and helping through the Orthodox Foreign Missionary Brotherhood the mission in Africa. We ask for your support, whatever it may be, in order to build the first Orthodox Clinic in Ghana.

May the love that “never fades away” light up like a candle in your hearts, enabling us to achieve our goal. Thank you!
