At the appeal of His Eminence Metropolitan of Central Africa, Mr.Nikephoros, we were informed of the need to support Congolese students who are unable to meet the financial requirements of their studies.
Today, when I came out of the Church, again several students were waiting for me and begging me to help them. Among them were two who are studying law and with great pain they told me: “Since 2010 we have stopped our studies because we could not pay. We have tried to find money, we have worked and what we have collected is not enough. We need another 150 dollars. We don’t have it, we will miss the year again this year, please help us.” My heart tightened. What should I do? Where can I find it to give to these and other Orthodox young people who every day are forced to interrupt their studies? That is why I was forced and took the courage to appeal to our Brotherhood to beg you warmly, leaning on your merciful heart, to grant us 25 scholarships for needy studentsand to help the Orthodox young people of our Metropolis, who are facing this problem, to continue their studies, so that the bishop can gaze upon their faces.
Our Brotherhood, despite the dire financial crisis that plagues us all, decided to respond to the request of His Eminence by sending 12,000 € for the needy students of the Metropolis. At the same time, he included the 27 students in the educational adoption program and invited the friends of the mission to take up their support. Already 16 students have found their sponsor and can complete their studies without stress.
For 250 € per year (or less than 70 minutes per day) for a period of 3 or 4 years, educational foster carers can offer the benefit of learning to young Congolese youths of good character. We invite those who can afford it to respond and help the young students.
